As part of bringing attention to the health needs of isolated communities in Ghana and finding positive solutions to the challenges, we were determined to reach Bompka, one of the most isolated villages in Northern Ghana. The village is also unique. Most people there had never before seen a doctor, a professional midwife or even a health assistant. The nearest hospital is in Salaga, several hours by motorbike. That is if you can cross the river. The bridge is broken.
Eventually, we reached Bompka and met the most heroic welcome of our lives. The journey to get there though was incredibly difficult, illustrating at first hand the lengths the people had to go to access basic health care.
